We were approached by a specialist testing company to manufacture a aluminium mounting cube jig for their shaker machine, which is a special vibration testing machine.
They needed a cube formation so they could mount a set of devices on the cube for the shaking testing.
The finished aluminium cube, please read on to find out more about how it is made and what it is used for.
After designing how it would be made in 3d cad, we started off by waterjet cutting the parts from 10mm thick aluminium plate. We used a cancellated joint design so it could be assembled with tight fitting joints prior to welding.
The cube shown here pre-assembled. The joints were a very tight fit, you can see how it all fit together really tightly.
The reason we chose to design it like this was for added strength as it was to be used to hold devices that were going to be vigorously shaken and tested on a shaker vibration testing machine. Ultimately the cube jig is also being tested and many times!
After pre-assembly, we took it all apart and ground back all the edges for weld preparation to ensure good strong welds and then we tig welded the aluminium cube together. Here you can see the welds on all the joints
After welding, all the welds were carefully ground back and final sanded.
Then the final cube was sandblasted ready for the customer to use.
The Cube was mounted into the Shaker vibration testing machine.
Then the customers components were mounted to be tested and the shaking commenced!
What can we do for you?
