Audi coffee table by Ollie Dolbear
Whilst we get involved in all sorts of design solutions and custom made work we also cut, manufacture and produce parts for other people to use in their own designs and work. Ollie Dolbear an AS level student at King Edward VI School in Southampton approached us with his project plans for his design and technology coursework, he was making an Audi design coffee table and wanted us to waterjet cut the profile he had created using 3d cad at the school, He had the ability to think through his project and visualise his design intent and due to limitations in the material processing available at the school he decided to contact us to help him cut the 3mm thick aluminium profile into the material that was supplied by the school, he emailed us his dxf cad file which was drawn so perfectly we only had to change the scale to use it on our Cad and CNC waterjet profiling system. once he received the profiled aluminium from us he used his skills to craft the table base and using laser cutting technology that the school has to cut the infill wooden panels. In all it was a good experience for him to gain to create his work from concept to completion incorporating the use of the latest technology on offer and industrial manufacturing services.
It was a pleasure to assist Ollie in his project and then a few weeks later to receive a letter of thanks from his Proud teacher Kevin Lindsay and an email of thanks from Ollie complete with the picture of his finished work shown above.
